Inlays and onlays offer a strong, durable result; if decay has set in and caused additional damage to your teeth, they offer better repair than fillings. Fillings perform better when there is less structural damage to the natural teeth.
As opposed to crowns, inlays and onlays preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.
While both inlays and onlays are used to fill a cavity in a tooth, an inlay is placed inside the tooth cavity, between the cusps. One or more cusps are usually present on onlays, which are bonded to the biting surface of the teeth.
A dental laboratory will make your inlay or onlay using a digital scan or mould taken by us. They are designed to match the exact size of the space you need to fill and will be a perfect replica of your existing teeth. You will be invited back to the practice to have your inlay or onlay placed once the inlay or onlay has been received.
