During your routine examination, we will discuss your habits and offer tailored advice to improve both your dental and overall health. Our goal is to promote healthy habits that will lead to better oral health.
At every visit, we will check your gums for early signs of gum disease and discuss treatment options with you if necessary. Brushing, interdental aids, and mouthwash will be part of our oral hygiene instruction.
Some forms of dental decay are detectable by sight, but not all. Our dental team regularly examines digital x-rays for early detection of decay and lesions between teeth. By taking x-rays, we can also analyze the long-term bone structural support.
Cavity-prone teeth (tooth decay) receive a fluoride varnish treatment. Fluoride varnish is applied topically to areas that might be difficult to brush. Children’s teeth should be treated with topical fluoride during their youth when brushing habits are less ideal. Most of our patients find it quite tasty, which is why this part of the exam is very popular with children!
A molar’s biting surface contains fissures and pits. The presence of a small gap allows decay-causing bacteria to grow. These tiny spaces are filled with fissure sealants. It is important to protect children’s permanent teeth with sealants since they have not yet received sufficient fluoride exposure.
